As recent violence has raised security concerns in Mexico, FIFA President Gianni Infantino aimed to reassure everyone about the organization of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Despite incidents on Sunday, with gunfire heard near a stadium during a football match, the head of world football stated that the tournament would go ahead as planned and that preparations were continuing normally.

According to several local sources, the gunfire is linked to clashes between criminal groups active in Mexico. Violence has been reported in several cities, including Guadalajara, which is set to host four matches in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026. These incidents have raised questions within the international football community with just over two years until the tournament kicks off.
In an interview with AFP, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was adamant: “Everything is going very well, everything will be fantastic.” He expressed confidence in the ability of Mexican authorities to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans during the competition.
Mexico will co-host the FIFA World Cup 2026 alongside the United States and Canada. This will be the third time Mexico has hosted the tournament, following the FIFA World Cups in 1970 and 1986, setting a historic record for hosting the event.

Organizers claim they are working closely with local authorities and security services to anticipate potential risks and ensure the smooth running of this global sporting event.
