Hero of the AFCON final but struggling at Borussia Dortmund, Ivorian international Sébastien Haller could be on the move this summer.

As journalist Rudy Galetti reveals on his X account, Turkish club Besiktas have made the 29-year-old striker their top offensive priority. “Besiktas has identified Sébastien Haller as its main target to strengthen the attack. The first contact with BVB has already been made: the Turkish club considers his transfer fee slightly high, but discussions will continue to lower the price,” our colleague revealed.

Signed from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2022 for €22.5 million, Haller has not really lived up to expectations during his time in Germany. While his first season was respectable (9 goals in 19 Bundesliga matches) despite long months out due to cancer, his second season has tarnished his record:

the Ivorian has not scored in his 14 appearances in the German top flight this season, and Niclas Füllkrug has clearly sent him to the bench. And faster than expected! Announced unavailable for last Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, Haller was ultimately available. Although he didn’t come off the bench, the Ivorian watched from the sidelines as his team secured victory (1-0).

This is already a small victory in itself, considering how slim the chances were of him returning so quickly. Not in the squad on Saturday against Augsburg (5-1), presumably rested by his coach Edin Terzić, Haller will hope to be part of the squad traveling to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night for the second leg.
