The new head coach of the national flagship team and his assistants were present at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé this Friday afternoon. The coach has announced his list of 31 players for upcoming competitions.

In Cameroon, everyone has their own analysis. “Before any controversy, we remind the Cameroonian football people that Marc Brys was appointed by the FECAFOOT COMEX after a favorable opinion from MINSEP. God bless the selected players! They wrote to FIFA saying that they do not recognize Marc Brys. Then they wrote again to say that they finally recognize him. Now that Marc Brys has independently released his list, will they write to FIFA again? What will they say this time?” questions Patrick Duprix Anicet Mani.

According to journalist and editorialist Biake Célestin, only time will tell if the Belgian made the right choice. “The revolution for the Indomitable Lions is not for tomorrow. We were treated to a ramshackle lineup. Only the future will tell,” he explains. Journalist Henry-Paul Diabate Manden believes our country is missing a chance to start over.

FECAFOOT proceeds to publish the list of selected players and sends a copy to the Minister of Sports. “We are missing another chance to start over. There is a cycle that has ended. We need the courage to rebuild like Claude Leroy in 1985 and the Weygand generation (Kana, Omam, Mbouh, Mbinkeu, Ebwele, Ntamack, Oumarou, Adama Zico…) or that of Henry Michel 10 years later with Foe, Kala, Song. Were there a lack of players at that time? Not at all.

The national team was mediocre due to uncertain lineups. Remember Zambia who thrashed Cameroon 4-1 in Lusaka. Even the return of Milla and the contribution of the new lion Ekeke did nothing. The Abega generation had reached its end. It was necessary to rebuild. A local core with the reinforcement of some professional players from strategic sectors won the Afro-Asian Cup ’85,” notes the journalist.

“After the publication of Marc Brys’ list, here is the follow-up: Article 8.- The selection of players for a national football team is exclusively the responsibility of the concerned coach. Article 9.- (1) The list of selected players, duly signed by the coach, must be sent to FECAFOOT no later than twenty (20) days before the scheduled match date.

(2) FECAFOOT then publishes the list of selected players and sends a copy to the Minister in charge of sports. (3) Before the publication of the list, FECAFOOT verifies the lineage, age, and administrative and disciplinary status of the players.

Article 10.- (1) FECAFOOT notifies the summoned player within the deadlines prescribed by FIFA and/or the African Football Confederation, hereinafter referred to as CAF, by any means leaving a written record. (2) FECAFOOT simultaneously informs the player’s association or sports company in writing,” posts journalist Albin Njilo.
