In a lengthy interview, Zinedine Zidane opened up about Olympique de Marseille and his future coaching career. He’s typically very reserved, so when he speaks, it’s always a bit of an event.

Zinedine Zidane recently granted a lengthy interview to the media outlet Carré, available on YouTube. In this conversation, he touched upon his love for the city of Marseille and for OM. The French football legend notably expressed a desire to see more players from the region in the first team squad. “In Marseille and its surroundings, we love sports.

Many athletes have emerged from this region. That’s why we’d like to see more Marseillais in OM, coming from the neighborhoods, because there’s an incredible pool of talent,” he said, before discussing his affection for the Phocéenne club: “I miss not having played for OM, but that’s how it goes. My career unfolded differently.

I didn’t do it, but Marseille, the club, always remains in my heart. When I was young, I was at the stadium, in the north stand, with friends. A true supporter! No one can take that away from me.”

Zidane is quite busy, and will he be back on the sidelines soon? Lately, there have been rumors about a return to Madrid before Carlo Ancelotti’s extension. Similar rumors circulated about the French national team before Didier Deschamps extended his contract.

Rumors about interest from Bayern also emerged in recent weeks. There’s also the fantasy of seeing him coach OM, a topic that wasn’t addressed in the interview. Regardless, he doesn’t seem in a hurry to return to coaching.

“Of course, I miss coaching, but I’m busy. The most important thing for me is to be occupied, to do things. To be active somewhere. And I am! But I’m still a coach. Yes, I miss the daily routine sometimes. But you have to understand that the coach’s daily routine is tough. It requires a lot of energy. So I took a break. It’s a big break. But it’s okay. At some point, we’ll see what happens, and if I need to get back in the game, I will. But I do miss it from time to time.” The message is clear.
