At the dawn of the 2024-2025 Elite One season, Cameroon’s reigning champions, Victoria United, have sent a powerful message to their future opponents.

Crowned champions amidst controversy last season, Victoria United is well aware of the high expectations surrounding them in this new campaign. The club must meet the demands of its supporters, who anticipate a confirmation of their status, while confronting criticism from detractors. The latter had questioned the legitimacy of their title, accusing the team of match-fixing—allegations that were ultimately dismissed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Valentin Nkwain, president of Victoria United and a divisive figure in Elite One, often faces criticism for his reportedly close and sometimes questionable ties with Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot). In a recent statement, the businessman addressed a sensitive and controversial topic: occult practices.

Nkwain did not hold back, openly condemning mystical practices he claims targeted him throughout last season. Despite repeated setbacks on what he describes as hostile grounds, the club president remains determined to overcome what he perceives as supernatural attacks aimed at hindering his team’s success.

“There’s a lot of black magic happening, but I will defeat it. I played 12 matches between Middle Farms and the Centenary Stadium (Limbe) without winning a single one. It’s pure black magic, and it exists in football. I know my people hate me because I’m not from the Southwest but from the Northwest. I will fight and secure victories in that stadium,” declared Valentin Nkwain, as reported by Afeseh Apong.

« Beaucoup de magie noire se produit mais je vais la vaincre. J'ai joué 12 matches entre Middle Farms et le Stade du Centenaire (Limbé) et je n'en ai gagné aucun.
