A few days ago, CAF announced the sanctions imposed on Senegal and Morocco after the heated final of the 2025 AFCON. In the end, Senegal got off relatively lightly. Pape Thiaw received a five-match suspension and a fine of $100,000, while Sarr and Ndiaye each got two-match suspensions. Overall, the Senegalese Football Federation was fined €515,000.
This Saturday, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) released a statement confirming that it accepts the sanctions imposed by CAF and will not appeal. They also committed to covering the personal fines of the staff and players.
“The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) informs the national and international public that it has acknowledged the decision DC23315 rendered on January 28, 2026, by the Disciplinary Jury of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). After analysis, the FSF notified the continental body of its decision not to appeal the sports and financial sanctions imposed against it. This waiver also concerns the individual disciplinary measures targeting the national coach, Mr. Pape Bouna Thiaw, as well as players Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye. In accordance with Article 91.4 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, the FSF confirms that it assumes full financial responsibility for the fines imposed on the federation, the technical staff, and the players.”
