Following the CAF disciplinary committee meeting, a Moroccan journalist suggested that “unprecedented sanctions” could be imposed by the organization.
Morocco and Senegal now have just two days to wait. In a statement released Tuesday evening, the Senegalese Football Federation confirmed that the CAF disciplinary committee, convened after the incidents during the Africa Cup of Nations final, is set to announce its decision within forty-eight hours.

Returning prematurely to the locker room to contest the penalty awarded to Brahim Diaz in the dying moments of regulation time, the Senegalese team faces heavy sanctions. This situation particularly concerns coach Pape Thiaw, who encouraged his players to leave the pitch, as well as some Lions of Teranga who could face individual repercussions.
“Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw, along with players Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye, have been duly heard and presented their defenses,” the Senegalese Football Federation clarified in its statement.
“A turning point in terms of discipline and governance”
According to Moroccan journalist Naama Maoulainine, the CAF is indeed preparing to take action. He stated, “Reliable sources indicate unprecedented sanctions in the history of African football, which could mark a turning point in discipline and governance on the continent,” in a message posted on X, followed by over 127,000 subscribers. These comments immediately ignited some Moroccan supporters, with some even hoping for Senegal to be stripped of its title.
However, the journalist, who specializes in geopolitical issues, sought to temper the excitement. “No official statement has been made to date regarding the events of the Africa Cup of Nations final. No penalties have been announced and the result remains unchanged. The matter is in the hands of the disciplinary committees, and the awaited decision will determine the outcome of the crisis,” he clarified in a follow-up message.
