Transfer window: The bad news is confirmed for Cheikhou Kouyaté!

Cheikhou Kouyaté is no longer a player for Amedspor. The 36-year-old Senegalese midfielder has had his contract mutually terminated, the Turkish club announced on its social media on Tuesday, ending a collaboration that lasted only a few months.

The news, which had been circulating for several days in Turkish and international media, is now official: Kouyaté and Amedspor are parting ways amicably. The club, currently leading the Turkish Second Division, stated that this decision was made in agreement with the player, highlighting mutual respect and each party’s desire to follow different paths.

Kouyaté arrived in Turkey in September 2025 with the ambition to revive his career after several months away from the pitch. He only played nine matches with Amedspor, eight of them in Trendyol 1. Lig. Despite his experience and leadership, he couldn’t establish himself in the team, but his time there was marked by his professionalism and positive influence in the locker room.

Before his Turkish adventure, Kouyaté had a rich and international career. The former captain of the Lions of Teranga, who became African champion with Senegal at the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon, made his mark in England with prestigious clubs like West Ham United, Crystal Palace, and Nottingham Forest. His career, filled with solid performances and a reputation as a powerful and experienced defensive midfielder, remains a model for many young Senegalese and African footballers.

As his future remains open, many clubs could be interested in this experienced player capable of bringing leadership and stability to the midfield. For Kouyaté, this separation from Amedspor could mark the beginning of a new chapter in his already impressive career.
