World Cup 2030: Morocco’s dream hit by a tough blow!

Despite intensive efforts in recent months with international bodies, Morocco will not outpace Spain in the race to host the final of the 2030 World Cup. The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, confirmed on Monday that the tournament’s final will indeed take place in Spain.

In recent weeks, Morocco had ramped up its efforts with FIFA to secure the final match, amid a climate marked by corruption allegations against the Spanish federation. The Kingdom hoped to capitalize on this situation to strengthen its position within the host trio formed by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

Already in favor of a final held in Spain, arguing that the country would bear nearly 55% of the weight of the joint bid, Rafael Louzán spoke plainly this time. “The final will be played here,” he declared. The RFEF president also referenced recent episodes in African football, suggesting that “scenes observed during the Africa Cup of Nations harm the image of world football,” before emphasizing that Spain has proven itself in terms of organization.

Morocco will therefore have to settle for hosting several matches, including those of its national team. The 2030 World Cup, a historic edition marking the centenary of the competition, will stand out with an unprecedented format, featuring matches spread across three continents and six countries. Alongside Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will also host matches, paying tribute to the very first World Cup held in 1930 in South America.
