The Morocco national team coach, Walid Regragui, might be living his final months at the helm of the Atlas Lions.
Still in his position despite a firm denial from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), the 50-year-old coach has reportedly expressed a desire to move on internally, according to sources close to the situation. This wish fuels speculation about the future of the Moroccan bench as major deadlines approach.

A Clear Condition Before Leaving
According to information reported by Soccer212, Regragui does not plan to leave without guarantees. The Corbeil-Essonnes native has reportedly set a non-negotiable condition: to ensure that his successor meets the ambitions of the team. This demand shows his commitment to the project and the stability of the group.
Unless there’s a turnaround, he is expected to lead the Atlas Lions at least until the 2026 World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Amid institutional caution and persistent rumors, Regragui’s future hangs on a strategic decision… and a crucial choice for the future of Moroccan football.
So far, Walid Regragui hasn’t just been in charge of the senior team. The coach has also had an expanded oversight on all Moroccan selections. According to several insiders, he is behind the appointment of Tarik Sektioui as head coach of the A’ team and Mohamed Ouahbi for the U20 Lions.
Sektioui and Ouahbi in the Lead
Ironically, these two profiles are now tipped to succeed him on the Atlas Lions bench. Sektioui is favored for the head coach position, while Ouahbi could join the staff in a strategic role, acting as a bridge between young talents and the first team.
Another option being discussed behind the scenes is the integration of Andrés Iniesta into the organization. However, the Spanish legend is not expected to take on a purely technical role on the bench. His profile would be more suited for a position akin to a sporting director: structuring the training, refining the playing identity, and establishing a clear football continuity from youth categories to the senior selection.
A strategic turning point is shaping up for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, which must decide between stability, continuity, and a new impetus.
