Just ten days after the explosive CAN 2025 final, Senegal faced the CAF disciplinary committee this Tuesday. The Lions of Teranga, and especially their coach Pape Thiaw, are under scrutiny after leaving the pitch following a highly contested penalty awarded to Morocco at the very end of the match, leading to a Senegalese defeat (1-0) after extra time.
This final was marked by numerous incidents: clashes between players, tensions on the benches, scuffles in the stands, attempts to invade the pitch, and property damage. This is a particularly sensitive case, closely monitored by the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, who has not hesitated to denounce a supposed Moroccan influence over CAF’s governing bodies.

The potential sanctions would mainly target Pape Thiaw and some players, but they should remain limited to African competitions and would not affect Senegal’s qualification for the World Cup, according to L’Équipe. The disciplinary committee, made up of representatives from several countries on the continent, is relying on various official reports, including those from the match referee and security officials.
Meanwhile, FIFA has already strongly condemned these behaviors, reminding everyone that such actions are unacceptable. The global body specifies, however, that any potential sanctions should remain confined to the African continent, although a global extension remains theoretically possible.
