After his participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Côte d’Ivoire as a consultant on the New World TV channel, Emmanuel Adebayor is back in his home country, Togo.
The former captain of the Sparrowhawks and some other former players have initiated live shows on the social media platform TikTok to discuss Togolese football.
Indeed, the non-participation of Togo in the recent Africa Cup of Nations football tournament in Côte d’Ivoire doesn’t sit well with many supporters. This marks the third consecutive CAN that Togo has missed out on. Especially not participating in the one organized in Côte d’Ivoire, a country where Togolese supporters could have attended in large numbers, is a real letdown.
To think about how to support the Sparrowhawks to qualify at least for the 2025 CAN in Morocco, the former Togolese players have come together and discussed.
During the discussions, Emmanuel Adebayor revisited the issue of giving money to his friend Apoutchou National, the Ivorian blogger. The former Real Madrid player allegedly gave one million CFA francs to the Ivorian artist when he visited Togo.
Adebayor earns millions in Côte d’Ivoire
This gesture by the Togolese star caused an uproar on social media. Togolese bloggers lamented that Adebayor doesn’t show interest in them but feels free to give money to an expatriate.
In response to this criticism, the former Gunner revealed the opportunities that Côte d’Ivoire still offers him to this day.
According to the star, in just the year 2023, he earned a whopping sum of 200 million CFA francs through advertising contracts in Côte d’Ivoire.
However, in his own country of Togo, where he has been residing permanently since 2020, he has never received a single franc.
Therefore, the star finds it logical to maintain his image with a country that offers him opportunities.
