For Senegal’s national coach, their status as reigning African champions should give the Lions confidence ahead of the start of the competition.
The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will officially kick off on Saturday January 13, 2024.
At a press conference to publish the list of 27 players called up, Aliou Cissé insisted on the respect due to the Lions of Teranga as reigning African champions.
“We’re African champions, so we need to have confidence in ourselves. And I think we deserve respect for everything we’ve done and the progress we’ve made,” declared Aliou Cissé.
On Friday December 29, Senegal’s national coach released a list of 27 players, including most of the winners of the CAN 2023 in Cameroon.
Sadio Mané, Idrissa Gana Guèye, Cheikhou Kouyaté and Edouard Mendy will once again be on hand to defend the title they won in Yaoundé two years ago.
Senegal are in Group C of the Côte d’Ivoire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, along with Cameroon, Gambia and Guinea.
The teams in Group C will be based in Yamoussoukro and will play their group matches at the Stade Charles Konan Banny.
