The former Cameroon international says that Mbeumo is the only player capable of using individual solutions.

Bryan Mbeumo will not be playing in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Côte d’Ivoire. The Cameroon striker is out with injury. His absence worries Claude Le Roy.

Speaking to Canal +, the former Cameroon international explained that his absence will be difficult for the Indomitable Lions to make up for:

“Mbeumo is the only player capable of exploding down the right flank, using individual solutions and offering a collective solution. It’s a real blow for the Indomitable Lions”, he declared.

Cameroon will therefore have to do without one of their best attacking assets for the tournament, which runs from January 9 to February 6.

Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo has undergone ankle surgery and will be unavailable for two months, according to his club. He will therefore miss the African soccer showpiece, where the Indomitable Lions are hoping to clinch a sixth continental title.

For this 21st participation in the continental tournament, coach Rigobert Song has unveiled a list of 27 players.

Among the players called up is Faris Pemi Moumbagna, born July 1ᵉʳ, 2000 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

In a video circulating on social networks, the Cameroonian footballer, who plays center-forward for FK Bodø, can be seen expressing his joy.

Other players named by Rigobert Song include captain Vincent Aboubakar, goalkeeper André Onana and midfielder Zambo Anguissa.

The big absentee is Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Two players from the local league have been selected for the competition.

“I go to so many local league matches. We’re all convinced and we’re seeing a bit of the good formula of the local championship and these youngsters today, they need to have their dream. Their dream is to be selected, and I think this is simply the right choice,” explained Rigobert Song.
