A week after Côte d’Ivoire’s triumph at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed sanctions on several individuals for misconduct. Among them, Hamari Traoré and Krépin Diatta were specifically reprimanded.

Following Mali’s elimination in the quarter-finals against Côte d’Ivoire, tensions erupted, notably marked by the behavior of Hamari Traoré, a defender for Real Sociedad, who confronted the referee at the end of the match. As a result, CAF suspended Traoré for four matches, two of which are suspended for one year, and imposed a fine of $10,000 on the Malian Football Federation for this incident.

Krépin Diatta, the Senegalese international, was also sanctioned following controversial remarks after the defeat in the round of 16 against Côte d’Ivoire, which were deemed detrimental to CAF’s image. He received a four-match suspension, two of which are suspended for a year, along with a $10,000 fine.

Additionally, the Senegalese Football Federation was fined $5,000 for its team’s misconduct, while the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) was also fined a similar amount for its team’s misconduct. These measures reflect CAF’s commitment to maintaining discipline and respect within African football.
