Afcon 2023: Ivory Coast starts with a victory against Guinea Bissau

Ivory Coast takes on Guinea Bissau in the opening match of Afcon 2023. A gem from Seko Fofana and a goal from Krasso were enough for the Elephants.

Without really shining, Côte d’Ivoire beat Guinea Bissau 2-0 on Saturday evening in the opening match of Afcon 2023 which it is organizing. The Elephants very quickly achieved their domination in the first quarter of an hour thanks to Seko Fofana. Al Nassr’s midfielder launched at the entrance to the area, armed with a curling shot to beat Djoco, Djutus goalkeeper. The former Lensois even almost suffered the double before the break. But his shot failed on the crossbar.

Back from the locker room, Guinea Bissau tries to react, but struggles to be decisive in the opposing area. Mama Balde, a little too lonely, couldn’t do anything against Diomandé and Ndicka, who perfectly contained the Djutus attack. And it’s the Ivory Coast who will make the break before the hour mark. Krasso’s efforts finally paid off, and he doubled the lead before giving way to Karim Konaté.

Ivory Coast therefore won 2-0 at the start of its Afcon 2023 and can now focus on the Super Eagles, who face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.
