A new scandal involving bonuses is causing uproar at the Ministry of Sports.

The Ministry of Sports, headed by Lat Diop, is embroiled in a bonus scandal. A delegation from the department, which traveled to Ivory Coast, was granted a bonus of 14 million FCFA each. However, 20 other ministry employees who did the bulk of the work between Yamoussoukro and Abidjan have not received their share as of yesterday, reports SourceA.

The ministry’s secretary-general, in justifying the bonuses received, only attended one Senegal match, which was against the Indomitable Lions. The secretary-general came to Ivory Coast on Thursday and returned on Saturday. He followed the rest of the competition from his living room in Dakar to pocket his money. In fact, SourceA has learned that among the official delegation were 7 members of the Ministry of Sports, including the head, Lat Diop.

Also present were the DAGE, Mamadou Ngom (who was implicated in the Covid Funds affair), the Director of High-Level Sports, the Minister’s Chief of Staff, and the secretary-general, among others. SourceA reports that the 7 who received these bonuses were supposed to each transfer a sum of 5 million FCFA to the DAGE. This collection, amounting to a total of 35 million FCFA, was supposed to be distributed to the other employees assigned to various commissions during the CAN. However, as of yesterday, they had not received any money.
