José Peseiro, the coach currently in charge of Nigeria, surprised Walid Sadi, the President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), with his unexpected answer regarding his professional future.
Peseiro, whose contract with Nigeria expires at the end of February, has left his future intentions in doubt after a period of rest. After being beaten in the final by Côte d’Ivoire, Peseiro said of his future:
“I’ll reflect and decide my fate later. I just want to take a long break until the end of February, when my contract ends, and then I’ll make my decision.”
“I want to continue with the Nigerian national team. I was hoping to give them the title and we gave everything at the tournament. I want to continue with the Nigerian national team,” he said, dispelling speculation about a possible move to Algeria and foiling Sadi’s plans.
Despite his achievements, Peseiro is facing criticism and pressure from the media and fans, especially after his team’s failure to reach the final of the African Cup of Nations.
Peseiro’s future at the helm of the Nigerian national team therefore remains in the balance, with a community of fans and observers of Nigerian football eagerly awaiting his final decision.
