FC Barcelona defender Jules Koundé sees the Atlas Lions as favorites to win the 34th edition of the CAN 2023, to be held from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire.

In an interview with Senegalese media outlet Le Quotidien, French international Jules Koundé believes that several nations, including Morocco, will be in with a shout of winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

“I see it as quite open. I think there are quite a few teams in with a chance of winning. Of course, Senegal is one of them, with a very good, young team and some very experienced leaders.

"I see it as quite open. I think there are quite a few teams in with a chance of winning. Of course, Senegal is one of them, with a very good, young team and some very experienced leaders.

Above all, they’re the defending champions. Of course, I’m also thinking of teams like Morocco, who did very well at the World Cup.

There are some really good teams like Cameroon, Algeria, and also Côte d’Ivoire, who will be at home”, before adding: “There are a lot of quality teams. I can’t wait to follow them. It’s going to be a great party. As for my preference, given that there’s no Benin (laughs), it’ll be Senegal”.

Jules Koundé, 25, was born in Paris, France, to a Beninese father and a French mother.

As a reminder, Yassine Bounou’s team-mates inherited Group F of the competition, along with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Zambia.
