The AFCON 2024 is just 4 days away. As the competition approaches rapidly, predictions from observers are multiplying. But that’s not all.

Although the announcement may raise ironic smiles, a highly respectable source, the Facebook page “Équipe Guinéenne de Football,” reveals this week the predictions of a venerable Guinean marabout based in Senegal for the CAN 2024. This individual has willingly participated in the prediction game by unveiling the identity of the glorious winner of the competition in Côte d’Ivoire!

A marabout crowns Guinea for the AFCON 2024

Enjoying eminent consideration in the land of Syli National, according to the praises of internet users, the renowned seer announces that Guinea, his country of origin, will climb the ranks to win its first Africa Cup of Nations in history.

Although perceived with skepticism by some, these predictions have been received seriously by many fervent Guinean and Senegalese supporters, who have widely shared them on social media.

According to several local media, the renowned marabout confidently predicted that “Guinea would eliminate Cameroon in the first round and follow a memorable trajectory similar to Greece under Otto Rehhagel in 2004.”

It is noteworthy that, despite prophesying the name of the winner, the marabout, however, refrains from commenting on other matches and the identity of the unfortunate finalist of the CAN 2024. Will his vision materialize? Find out on February 11th at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan for the unraveling of this intriguing prediction. In the meantime, which teams are most likely to win the CAN 2024?

Favorites for the AFCON 2024

Since Egypt’s historic triple in 2006, 2008, and 2010, none of the titleholders of the Africa Cup of Nations has succeeded in achieving a back-to-back victory in the subsequent edition. However, after their first-ever triumph in 2021 and two consecutive finals, Senegal hopes to end this curse. With players like Sadio Mané, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gueye, and Ismaïla Sarr, the Lions of Teranga seem well-equipped to achieve this goal, having remained undefeated in the qualifiers.

CAN 2024

Morocco, the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, hopes to confirm its performances on the African stage. Despite not winning the CAN since 1976, the Lions of the Atlas remain among the top favorites. Ranked 13th in the FIFA rankings, Morocco will field a team composed of players from top clubs, such as Achraf Hakimi, Yassine Bounou, Sofyan Amrabat, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Hakim Ziyech.

Ivory Coast, although considered a notch below Senegal or Morocco on paper, benefits from the advantage of playing at home as the host country. The Ivorians will seek revenge after being eliminated in the round of 16 by Egypt in the last edition in 2021. Under the guidance of Jean-Louis Gasset, the Elephants can rely on key players such as Ibrahim Sangaré, Franck Kessié, Jonathan Bamba, Seko Fofana, and Sébastien Haller.

Algeria is somewhat of an uncertainty in this CAN. Capable of the best and the worst, it is challenging to predict the team’s performance. After their victory in 2019, the Fennecs experienced an early elimination in 2021 and failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. However, under the leadership of Djamel Belmadi, Algeria has quality players, including dual nationals Houssem Aouar and Amine Gouiri.

Do not underestimate Egypt, with seven titles to their name, they are by far the most decorated team. Although their last triumph dates back to 2010, the Pharaohs reached the final in 2017 and 2021. Despite a squad perhaps less impressive than their competitors, Egypt relies on players like Mohamed Salah, motivated to win his first Africa Cup of Nations.
