The qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations have come to an end, and the 24 nations that qualified are preparing for the finals. One of the stars of the campaign was Moroccan striker Brahim Diaz, who finished top scorer with 7 goals, including a resounding hat-trick on the final day against Lesotho.
In his first African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with Morocco, Brahim Diaz is already stealing the show from all the African stars. The Real Madrid striker has carried Morocco throughout the qualifiers and has proved his effectiveness in front of goal. With a hat-trick in the final match against Lesotho, the former Bianconeri striker not only consolidated his place at the top of the scoring charts, but also boosted the Atlas Lions’ hopes of reaching the finals on home soil.
Behind Brahim Diaz, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy shone with 6 goals, but his team failed to qualify, losing to Tanzania on the final day. It was a major disappointment for the Borussia Dortmund striker, who is on the rise. Algeria’s Amine Gouiri, scorer of 4 goals, was one of the architects of the Fennecs’ fine campaign, as were Zambia’s Kennedy Musonda and Egypt’s Trezeguet, who also finished with the same total.
Other big names in African football, such as Vincent Aboubakar (Cameroon), Sadio Mané (Senegal) and Ryan Mendes (Cape Verde), each scored 3 goals in these qualifiers. With players in great form such as Brahim Diaz, Trezeguet and Amine Gouiri, the CAN 2025 promises to be particularly competitive. The African stars will be keen to shine on the continental stage just a few months before the 2026 World Cup.
