With just two weeks to go before the start of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, Jean-Louis Gasset has received some very good news.
The Elephants’ coach can count on the availability of Ibrahim Sangaré, who made his return from injury on Tuesday in the Premier League. At one stage, he had been ruled out for Nottingham Forest.
With a groin injury, the Ivorian international was still doubtful for the trip to Nottingham Forest.
“Ibrahim Sangaré is different. He’s not at his best yet. He was seriously ill, he’s lost weight and it’s his groin.
But he’s definitely an option for us,” said Reds coach Nuno Espirito Santos recently. But the midfielder made his return to Premier League action on Tuesday.
Ibrahim Sangaré was even in the starting XI for Nottingham Forest’s trip to Newcastle. He played a clean 70 minutes in his side’s 3-1 victory over the Magpies.
He touched the ball 29 times, completing 18 of the 22 passes he attempted. As if to demonstrate his return to full fitness, the former PSV Eindhoven man won 3 of the 6 duels in which he was involved.
Ibrahim Sangaré also made an interception, blocked a shot and made three tackles, with five balls lost and four recovered.
A return to form for the midfielder just a few days before the publication of the final list of Côte d’Ivoire’s Elephants for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Excellent news for Côte d’Ivoire coach Jean-Louis Gasset.
