Problems continue to haunt Cameroon and Samuel Eto’o’s Fecafoot. Having qualified for the 2025 African Cup of Nations, the Indomitable Lions are in danger of missing out on the competition in Morocco. A legal dispute is threatening the country with exclusion.

While Cameroon was enjoying its qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a dark cloud now hangs over the Indomitable Lions’ participation in this prestigious tournament. According to Sport News Africa, the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) is facing suspension by FIFA over an unresolved dispute with its former coach, Antonio Conceição.

In February 2022, Samuel Eto’o’s Fecafoot prematurely terminated Conceição’s contract, an action deemed abusive by FIFA. Following this decision, the body was ordered to pay compensation of 1.6 million euros (nearly one billion CFA francs) to the Portuguese coach. To date, however, Fecafoot has not regularised this financial situation, exposing Cameroon to potential sanctions from FIFA.

Cameroon possibly excluded from the 2025 African Cup of Nations

The Cameroonian authorities are taking this threat very seriously. According to a source at the Ministry of Sport quoted by Actu Cameroun, FIFA could impose severe sanctions if Fecafoot fails to honour its commitments to Antonio Conceição: “FIFA’s threat is real, it’s not just a rumour. Fécafoot must face up to its responsibilities and assume all the consequences,” confirmed the Ministry.

This situation comes at a critical time as the Indomitable Lions prepare to take part in the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco. The uncertainty surrounding their place in this competition is causing concern among fans, who fear that sanctions could taint their team’s future. Time is running out for Fecafoot, who must resolve this dispute if Cameroon is to be guaranteed a place at the finals. FIFA could well take drastic measures if the financial commitments to Conceição are not met as soon as possible.

Cameroon fans remain optimistic, however. They hope that Fecafoot will quickly resolve this crisis so that the Indomitable Lions can proudly defend their colours at the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
