According to recent sources, and pending official confirmation, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly communicated the draw date for the preliminary qualifications of the AFCON 2025. This information is said to have been transmitted to the various participating confederations through official correspondence. The draw for the preliminary round is thus scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

An official announcement from CAF is expected to follow shortly. It is worth noting that this draw will determine the matchups for the preliminary round, involving the 12 lowest-ranked teams according to the most recent FIFA rankings. These matches will take place during the upcoming FIFA matchdays, from March 18 to 26, 2024, in accordance with the schedule already communicated to all CAF associations.
The 12 African nations involved in this preliminary draw are: Seychelles, Djibouti, Somalia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana, and Ethiopia.
