Media reports indicate that the Mauritanian Football Federation is seriously considering former Teranga Lions coach Aliou Cissé as a leading candidate to take over the reins of the national team in the coming months.

On November 22, the President of the Mauritanian Football Association, Ahmed Yahya, made official the end of his collaboration with Amir Abdou, former coach of the Comoros, following the Mourabitounes’ elimination from the CAN 2025 qualifiers. The separation was made official by mutual agreement.

Aliou Cissé confirmed

According to the revelations of African journalist Micky Jnr on his official page, Aliou Cissé could make a return to the bench by taking charge of the Mauritanian national team. If confirmed, this would be a new adventure for the Senegalese coach.

During his tenure with the Senegalese national team, Aliou Cissé made history by reaching the final of the CAN 2019, despite losing to Djamel Belmadi’s Algeria. He did, however, give Senegal their first continental title in 2022, triumphing over Egypt in a memorable final in Cameroon.
