Guinea’s Minister of Sport, Kéamou Bogola Haba, has been at pains to reassure Syli National fans about their possible participation in the CAN 2025.
In a recent statement, he affirmed that “Guinea is not eliminated from the CAN 2025”, while insisting on a possible favorable development thanks to a complaint lodged with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
An anomaly denounced by Guinea
The Guinean protest follows irregularities noted during the last match against Tanzania, which Guinea lost 1-0. According to the Guinean Football Federation (FGF), a Tanzanian player wore a jersey with a different number (26) to the one on the official team sheet (24). This anomaly, described by Guinean officials as an “administrative error”, constitutes a violation of CAF regulations.
If the complaint succeeds and Tanzania is found guilty, Guinea could secure a victory on the green carpet, synonymous with qualification for the CAN 2025. “CAF texts are clear on this point. We are confident of obtaining a favorable decision,” declared Kéamou Bogola Haba. However, he added that the final decision would depend on the match commissioner’s report, currently being analyzed.
Controversial refereeing and criticized organization
In addition to this complaint, criticism was levelled at the conditions under which the match was organized. The Minister criticized unfavorable refereeing and a last-minute change to the kick-off time, which he claimed had affected the Syli National’s performance.
Fans between hope and expectation
These events have sparked discontent among Guinean fans, who are hoping for a turnaround in their team’s fortunes. Pending the CAF’s decision, Kéamou Bogola Haba called on fans to remain confident and continue to support the Syli National.
If the complaint is successful, Guinea will be able to take part in the CAN 2025, scheduled to take place in Morocco. CAF’s decision, expected in the next few days, will be crucial in sealing the Syli National’s future in this prestigious competition.
