Announced as almost certain, the transfer of Guinean international Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund has hit a snag.
Two weeks ago, Serhou Guirassy had given his green light for Borussia Dortmund to trigger his release clause.
After an outstanding year at Stuttgart (finishing as the Bundesliga’s second-highest scorer with 28 goals in 28 matches), the former Rennes player was all set to join BVB for a modest fee of 17.5 million euros (though his market value is estimated at 40 million euros on Transfermarkt). He was supposed to promptly sign a five-year contract with a substantial signing bonus. In short, everything was well set for the smooth transfer of the Arles-born striker. However, there’s a hitch.

Indeed, the 28-year-old player failed the customary medical examination, a prerequisite for signing his contract. “During Serhou Guirassy’s medical examination, an injury was detected that requires further examination,” announced the Yellow and Black club in a concise statement via their official account on X Wednesday.
While numerous questions lingered, Fabrizio Romano provided some insights. Apparently, according to market insiders, the striker sustained an injury during Guinea’s last match on June 10 against Mozambique (0-1) in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The fifth-place finisher in the last Bundesliga season wanted to clarify the situation. This significant setback could potentially derail the transfer deal for the player. More to follow…
