The sum of 1.6 billion FCFA is what coach Hervé Renard could potentially earn if he coaches the prestigious African team, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. Let’s delve into the details.

Following the non-renewal of Rigobert Song’s contract, the Cameroonian Ministry of Sports has taken the initiative to find his replacement. Last week, it was announced that the Belgian Marc Brys would be leading the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, a decision that many Cameroonians have contested.

Later, FECAFOOT also reacted, expressing their indignation towards the selection of this coach. Subsequently, a list of coaches designated by the federation along with their respective salaries began circulating.

There were 3 coaches: Hervé Renard, José Peserio, and Fabio Canavaro. Among them, only the salary of the French coach was higher. FECAFOOT proposed an annual salary of 1.6 billion FCFA for Hervé Renard. Internet users who had previously supported Samuel Eto’o were ultimately surprised by this news. They reacted in large numbers with the following sentiments:

“Open-air schools or classes under trees, lacking desks, lacking teaching staff. Absence of hospitals, lack of security personnel in many localities. We are a poor country, very poor indeed.

But unfortunately, what interests us the most is football, to the extent that we want to pay over a billion to an individual to coach a team that plays only 3 or 4 times a year. Let’s wake up, dear Cameroonians.

But wait, why should we spend so much money to bring in such an expensive coach when we have an ongoing championship that plays out like a neighborhood tournament? Instead of spending more money to elevate it?

So the country is spending huge sums like this on football without considering the salaries of other staff members and players. Meanwhile, teachers are crying because their allowances aren’t paid! The players themselves are not doing anything. Please, let’s suspend football for 5 years. And let’s address the issue of the knights of the white chalk, the educators, the administrators.”

This time, Samuel Eto’o was powerless in the face of this, as the ministry did not consult FECAFOOT for the appointment of the new coach.
