It’s the end of the Brazilian championship, and Coritiba, home of Algerian international striker Islam Slimani, has missed the season and will be joining Ligue 2 next season.
Although the South Brazilian club’s management are counting on the Fennecs striker, there’s nothing to say he’ll stay in Brazil, as the Algerian prefers to remain discreet about his intentions.
And that’s why everyone is watching his every move, trying to guess the future of Islam Slimani, who has accustomed his fans to last-minute surprises.
According to indiscretions, Algeria’s all-time top scorer travelled to France, where he stayed for just 24 hours. He was there to negotiate the terms of a possible transfer to a Ligue 1 Uber Eats club.
No one has been able to confirm this last detail, but what is certain is that the Algerian team’s center-forward, who was at the Sidi Moussa National Technical Center in Algiers, flew to France on Monday December 25, only to return the following day directly to the same Sidi Moussa NTC, where he is continuing his preparations to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2024), the final phase of which will take place from January 13 to February 11 in Côte d’Ivoire.
Islam Slimani has played for a number of clubs in his career, and at the age of 35, he is about to take part in the sixth CAN of his career, following on from 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021.
National coach Djamel Belmadi is counting on his goalscoring prowess to help Côte d’Ivoire. And it was with this in mind that he joined the CTN at Sidi Moussa early on, due to his lack of competition and, therefore, form.
