Social networks were recently the scene of an unjustified controversy targeting the coach of the Algerian national team, Djamel Belmadi.
Indeed, an innocent photo posted by the Algerian coach during the Al jumua’a salât on Friday December 29 triggered a series of shameful comments from some Moroccan internet users.
Abusive comments against Belmadi
The comments took a shocking turn, with statements such as: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Belmadi dressed any differently than in his Algeria tracksuit” and “With his grocer’s face”.
These inappropriate remarks sparked outrage, highlighting the level of provocation and contempt shown towards sports personalities.
Reactions from Internet users
Internet users, whether Algerian fans or simply defenders of ethics on social networks, were quick to react by condemning these gratuitous attacks.
Many stressed the importance of respecting individuals in their personal and religious spheres, regardless of their sporting affiliations.
The tracksuit: a positive symbol
Djamel Belmadi, often seen wearing a tracksuit in Algeria’s national colors, has transformed this outfit into a symbol of his commitment to his country.
Disobliging comments seem to seek to denigrate not only his choice of clothing, but also his identity and his attachment to his values.
