Scary revelations about FIFA’s influence on CAF!

An RFI investigation details how FIFA has put its stamp on the Confederation of African Football.

FIFA’s shadow hangs over the Confederation of African Football (CAF)! As RFI explains in an investigation, former employees denounce the global body’s total control over CAF, orchestrated by Véron Mosengo-Omba, the secretary general imposed by FIFA after the election of Patrice Motsepe.

A total takeover!

A telling example, a former senior CAF executive speaks of “blatant interference”: FIFA had installed a person in the finance office, approving all invoices. Another disappointed employee claims that “Swiss and Italians were deciding the future of CAF.” This management style was dictated by Zurich, far removed from African ambitions. According to journalist Mamadou Gaye, Motsepe’s election in 2021 was orchestrated by FIFA via the “Rabat Protocol.” The objective: to control African votes for the 2023 and 2027 FIFA elections. Once in office, FIFA imposed Mosengo-Omba, a former Zurich executive, who became CAF’s “second president.”

Authoritarian and Oppressive Methods

Under Mosengo-Omba, management is described as “toxic” and “authoritarian.” Many executives have resigned, some falling into depression. Cases of harassment and intimidation have been reported, with no response from management. Could Motsepe, re-elected on March 12, finally break free? While some are suggesting Mosengo-Omba’s departure, others insist he will remain in office. Despite convincing sporting results, can CAF truly claim its independence in the face of FIFA’s growing influence?
