Former Ivorian international and iconic Arsenal FC player, Emmanuel Eboué, experienced glory, wealth, and success at the highest level. But behind this shining career lies a much darker reality today.
In a poignant testimony, the former defender shares his descent into hell after his divorce in 2017. A separation that cost him everything.

“I bought a lot of houses, I had a lot of cars… and I lost everything.”
Eboué doesn’t hide the shock of it all. He explains that he lost a significant part of his assets in England, the country where he built most of his career. It’s a brutal fall, especially hard to accept since he claims he married for love.
“People said it was good that she took everything from me… but I married with my heart. When I’m with someone, I give 100%.”
An even greater pain: the distance from his children
Beyond the financial losses, it’s on a personal level that the wound remains open. Emmanuel Eboué speaks emotionally about the distance that now separates him from his children.
“I miss my children. Every day, I pray for them. I pray that one day I can see them again.”
The situation is even more painful as he claims he hasn’t had contact with them for several years. He even reveals that he wasn’t informed about a key moment in his son’s life.
“I wasn’t there when my son Mathis signed with Chelsea FC. His mother didn’t call me.”
This absence gnaws at him daily. He wants to reconnect with his son to support him on his journey.
A fall, but also a message
Despite the trials, Emmanuel Eboué’s testimony goes beyond a simple personal story. It highlights the sometimes dramatic consequences of certain life decisions, especially in relationships and financial management.
His story reminds us that behind the spotlight and the millions, footballers are still human, vulnerable to life’s ups and downs.
