Ismael Bennacer came on as a substitute and played a crucial role in thwarting a counter-attack opportunity for Juventus with his clever reading of the game. While his performance was modest, he helped his team preserve the score. However, his coach, Stefano Pioli, has expressed concerns about his recent level of play, hinting at a possible departure.
Even before Pioli’s remarks, Bennacer had informed his inner circle of his intention to leave AC Milan. His agent, Enzo Raiola, has already begun exploring options with interested clubs. With a release clause of 50 million euros, Bennacer is within reach of wealthy clubs, including those in Saudi Arabia, although he prefers to stay in Europe for the time being.
Relations between Bennacer and AC Milan have evolved since his last contract extension, where he secured an annual salary of 7 million euros after tense negotiations. His recent dip in form, attributed in part to a previous injury and motivational issues, has made his departure more likely.
The influence of Paolo Maldini, a former club legend, had been instrumental in persuading Bennacer to stay. However, Maldini’s departure has paved the way for a possible exit for Bennacer after five seasons at the club, during which he won the Italian championship title in 2022.
