The national coach of the Algerian team, Vladimir Petkovic, is considering bringing back a player who has been absent from the Algerian national team for about three years for the next gathering.

This player is Ayoub Abdellaoui, a defender for MC Alger, whom Petkovic sees as a solution to the defensive struggles faced by the team. Petkovic intends to include Abdellaoui in the roster for the June 2024 camp, as reported by “L’Équipe de Vincennes”.

Abdellaoui, who is 31 years old, has not played for the national team since November 16, 2021, when Algeria faced Burkina Faso in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Under the direction of former coach Rabah Madjer, he made his national team debut on November 10, 2017, in a match against Nigeria during the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.

This season, Abdellaoui has played 24 league matches with MC Alger, scoring two goals, and has also participated in three cup matches, where he also scored.

Petkovic hopes that Abdellaoui’s presence will help strengthen the Algerian national team’s defense, which showed weaknesses during friendly matches last March. His inclusion in the extended roster means he could be selected to face Guinea and Uganda in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
