After considering Lassaâd Dridi and Nabil El-Kouki, USMA president Athmane Sahbane ultimately opted for another Tunisian option by appointing Nabil Maâloul as the club’s new coach for the upcoming season.

Negotiations between the two parties were finalized, officially confirming Maâloul as USMA’s coach.

While most Ligue 1 clubs have already set their offseason preparation schedules, USMA was still without a coach. Athmane Sahbane has been actively addressing this issue for about ten days. After the failed attempt to hire Croatian Ante Cacic, he turned to the Tunisian pathway. After contacting Lassaâd Dridi and Nabil El-Kouki, he eventually settled on Nabil Maâloul. Maâloul was recently available after terminating his contract with Kuwait SC due to disagreements over recruitment. Maâloul had also attracted interest from Wydad Casablanca and AS FAR.

Nabil Maâloul boasts an impressive resume. A former coach of the Tunisian national team on two occasions, he has coached ES Tunis and achieved significant success with the prestigious club. He has also managed Al-Jaish SC and Al-Duhail SC in Qatar. His African experience will be invaluable for USMA, especially with an eye on the CAF Confederation Cup next season. Athmane Sahbane has therefore made a masterstroke by appointing such a high-caliber coach to revitalize USMA.

As a reminder, FIFA’s disciplinary committee fined Ilyes Chetti, a new player for USM Alger, 2 billion Algerian centimes for unilaterally terminating his contract with Esperance de Tunis in July 2022. French club Angers, where he subsequently joined, was also fined approximately 98,000 euros, bringing the total fine to over 190,000 euros. This situation could complicate Chetti’s eligibility for USM Alger, as he faces a minimum six-month suspension if the fine is not paid by August 11. The USM Alger management, led by Serport, has pledged to settle this fine, prompting Chetti to forego signing with JS Kabylie, which refused to cover the payment.
