Announced as a target for Olympique de Marseille (OM), Algeria’s right-back Youcef Atal finds himself in a delicate situation.

Despite receiving numerous offers and strong links to Marseille, intense speculation surrounds his future. However, political considerations and external factors unrelated to sport have hindered progress on the transfer, prompting his current club, Adana Demirspor in Turkey, to push for his retention by offering him a contract renewal.

The talented Youcef Atal, a key player for the Algerian national team, has attracted interest from several clubs seeking to secure his services in this summer transfer window, following the expiration of his contract with Adana Demirspor at the end of last season. Among them, Olympique de Marseille has engaged in serious negotiations to bring back the right-back to Ligue 1, following his departure from Nice in January to join Adana in Turkey.

The Turkish club appears determined to keep Atal and extend his contract, as reported by Turkish media sources. President Murat Sancak is reportedly prepared to make an attractive offer to convince the player to stay. However, rumors persist regarding a potential return of the player to France, despite recent comments from Sancak suggesting that Atal’s statements on Palestine may have complicated the deal with OM.

These developments come as French media close to OM continue to speculate on Atal’s transfer and discuss the possibility of his arrival. As of now, there have been no recent updates regarding this transaction, despite the approval of new coach Roberto De Zerbi for his recruitment. Several Turkish clubs, including Besiktas, Ayburspor, and Fenerbahçe, have also expressed interest in the Algerian defender.
