Algerian international Baghdad Bounedjah (32 years old) is likely to leave Al-Sadd after nine seasons of excellent and loyal service.
Baghdad Bounedjah is expected to turn the page on Al-Sadd this summer. After, for now, playing 225 matches, scoring 200 goals, and providing 60 assists, the former Étoile Sportive du Sahel player, who arrived in 2015, is unlikely to be extended by the Doha-based club. His contract is set to expire on June 30.
According to the well-informed La Gazette du Fennec, the Algerian striker (69 caps, 30 goals) will join Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia. The trend suggests that he will commit to the White Lions for the next two seasons, with the team currently in ninth place in the Saudi Pro League with six rounds remaining.
His fifth club in his career
According to the same source, the Riyadh-based club had already offered €12 million (the player’s value is estimated at €3.5 million) during the winter transfer window, before the deal fell through at the last moment due to logistical reasons. If the move materializes, the 2019 African champion would join his fifth club in his career after RCG Oran, USM El Harrach, ES Sahel, and Al-Sadd. At Al-Shabab, he would compete with Senegalese forward Habib Diallo, who arrived from Strasbourg last summer and has been disappointing so far (with only 4 goals scored).

Thus, Bounedjah will likely play his final matches on Wednesday against Al Shamal and Sunday against Al Rayyan, aiming for his fifth Qatar Stars League title after winning in 2019, 2021, and 2022. Despite scoring 11 goals this season, including a hat-trick last week (a 9-1 victory against Al-Ahli SC), the Oran native is currently out of contention for the league’s top scorer title, which he has won three times (in 2017, 2019, and 2021).
