CAF has informed the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), as well as all member associations, that the African Competitions Committee has set June 15 as the deadline to determine the clubs participating in the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
In Algeria, only Mouloudia d’Alger has already secured its qualification for an African competition. Having won the championship four matchdays in advance, MCA will compete in the 2024-2025 Champions League.
However, the competition remains fierce among other clubs, notably CRB and CSC, to clinch the second spot in the standings and thereby join MCA in the Champions League.
Considering that the third-placed team in the championship and the winner of the Algerian Cup are assured of competing in the Confederation Cup this season, and given the teams in the Algerian Cup final, an opportunity arises for the fourth-placed team to qualify for the Confederation Cup. This is because MCA is already qualified and CRB currently occupies the second spot. Thus, USM Alger and ES Setif will vie for the fourth place in the upcoming matchdays of the Ligue 1.
As a reminder, the Algerian championship concludes on June 15, which is the same deadline set by CAF. It remains to be seen whether the qualified teams will be known before this date or if FAF will announce the Algerian representatives in the final hours.
