The highly anticipated final of the 57th edition of the Algerian Football Cup 2024, scheduled for Friday, July 5th at the Olympic Stadium of 5-July 1962 in Algiers at 5:00 PM, will be played with Video Assistant Referee (VAR), according to an announcement from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on its official website.
FAF has sent an explanatory circular to the two finalist clubs to help them prepare effectively for this major event. A technical meeting involving all stakeholders was held at the FAF headquarters last Wednesday.
During this meeting, Lahcene Tombouctou, president of the Algerian Cup Commission, presented the details of the preparations for the “Dame Coupe” final, in front of the Federal Bureau expanded to national leagues, chaired by Walid Sadi, president of FAF, at the National Technical Center (CTN) in Sidi Moussa.
The Federal Bureau expressed its wishes for success to both finalists for this important national competition and called on supporters to make this sporting event an opportunity to pay tribute to the past legends of both teams who have promoted the values of sportsmanship and fair play.
MC Alger qualified for their tenth historic final by eliminating CS Constantine in the semi-finals (2-1 after extra time), while CR Belouizdad, the unfortunate finalist of the last edition won by ASO Chlef (1-2 after extra time), overcame USM Alger on penalties (0-0, 3-1 on penalties).
The “Doyen,” eight-time Algerian champion, now aims for the cup-league double, while CR Belouizdad, last year’s runner-up, seeks to salvage their season by winning the Algerian Cup. It is noteworthy that both clubs have won the Algerian Cup eight times each, thus joining USM Alger and ES Sétif at the top of the historical standings.
According to our colleagues at the Arabic-speaking media Echourouk, three Portuguese technicians specialized in VAR technology are expected in Algeria in the coming hours to contribute to the preparation of this final, which will kick off on July 5th at 5:00 PM in front of 40,000 spectators from both teams and numerous honored guests, including national coach Vladimir Petkovic.
