Walid Sadi, the president of the Algerian Football Federation, has made several statements regarding the tensions surrounding the match between USM Alger and RS Berkane, this Sunday for the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final.
At the heart of the controversy? Algeria accuses the visiting team of intentional provocation with their jersey depicting the map of Morocco with Western Sahara, considered an independent state by Algiers, while the visitors emphasize that the same jersey has never sparked conflicts during their travels to other African countries.

In response to these palpable tensions, Walid Sadi sought to clarify the position of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) with a series of statements to El Hayat, affirming Algeria’s determination to resolve this controversy. Sadi notably emphasized that the FAF had taken the initiative to purchase high-quality replacement jerseys for the Moroccan team to ensure that the match proceeds smoothly, highlighting Algeria’s effort to maintain the sporting spirit.
USM Alger, the host club, confirms its commitment to participating in the match, reinforcing the FAF’s firm stance, which has also reached out to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to express its concerns.
