The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has filed an official complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee against the Confederation of African Football (CAF), accusing it of not adhering to its own regulations in the case involving USM Alger and RS Berkane.
This move marks a turning point in a dispute that has become internationalized due to CAF’s failure to arbitrate fairly.
To support this complaint, Walid Sadi, president of the FAF, personally traveled to Switzerland with five specialized lawyers. The dispute between the two clubs has taken on a dimension beyond the African scope, following contested decisions by CAF.
The complaint notably highlights RS Berkane’s violation of universal sporting rules, as evidenced by the inclusion of the territory of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) on its jersey, contrary to FIFA’s regulations on equipment.
The FAF also reproaches CAF for failing to respond to its requests for clarification regarding the basis of its decisions in previous cases between the two clubs.
This action by the FAF aims to denounce the repeated violations of CAF regulations and to put an end to the impunity that it seems to have enjoyed for several years.
