The next gathering of the Fennecs, led by Vladimir Petkovic, is fast approaching, and the first names of the players included in the preliminary squad are beginning to be revealed, including Riyad Mahrez and Youcef Belaili.
According to La Gazette du Fennec, Mahrez and Belaili, two key players who missed the last camp in March for different reasons, have received their invitations to Petkovic’s expanded list.
The gathering of the Greens will begin on June 3, three days before the first match against Guinea, which counts for the third round of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Mahrez had requested time off to consider his international future after three successive failures with the national team, while Petkovic had chosen not to call up Belaili. Thus, both players are in the plans of the Bosnian coach; it remains to be seen if they will be included in the final list, which is expected to feature 23 players.
To recap, after facing Guinea on June 6, the Algerian team will fly to Kampala to play against Uganda on June 10.
