The coach of the Algerian national team, Vladimir Petkovic, made a positive impression ahead of the first leg of the African Football Confederation (CAF) Cup semi-final between USM Alger and RS Berkane.

On the eve of hosting the Moroccan team RS Berkane for the second CAF Cup semi-final after Zamalek-Dreams FC, USM Alger received a distinguished guest: Vladimir Petkovic. During his visit to Algiers, the head of the national team took the opportunity to motivate the Usmistes, the only Algerian representatives in the CAF Cup semi-finals.

Petkovic boosts USM Alger’s morale

In a video published on Saturday by the media outlet Algeria Football Media on X, during the Algerian-Moroccan hostilities surrounding the reception of the Berkane team, Petkovic can be seen at the USMA training center discussing with the officials as well as with coach Juan Carlos Garrido.

The 60-year-old coach then shook hands with the players upon their arrival at training, before posing for a group photo. It’s worth noting that Petkovic was already in Algiers last week for the Algerian Cup eighth-finals between USMA and RC Bougaa (a 7-0 victory). Accompanied by his assistant Nabil Neghiz, the former Swiss national team boss had observed several Usmistes, including goalkeeper Oussama Benbot and captain Zineddine Belaid, who were called up but did not play in March, as well as Brahim Benzaza and the young central defender Abdessamed Bounacer (19 years old), who have never been called up but could be in the medium to long term.
