Riyad Mahrez’s absence from Al-Ahli Saudi FC’s collective training sessions has sparked recent speculation about his future. However, local media on July 11 revealed the true reasons behind his absence.
Mahrez missed training for the past two days before returning on Wednesday morning. Rumors suggested tensions between the Algerian captain and Al-Ahli’s management, but reliable sources have denied these claims. In reality, the club had authorized his absence to allow him to rest, and there is no conflict between Mahrez and the club.
The former Manchester City player, who joined Al-Ahli in 2023 for €35 million, quickly resumed collective training and is preparing to depart for the preseason camp in Austria. This three-week camp will include friendly matches. Mahrez, who has proven his worth in Saudi Arabia, is entering his second season with Al-Ahli.
His contract with Al-Ahli runs until the summer of 2027, and it appears likely that he will remain with the club for the upcoming season. Last season, Mahrez scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 33 matches, helping Al-Ahli finish third in the Saudi Professional League with 65 points.
