A subject that has been troubling the Algerian championship lately and sparking controversy is the issue of doping control. The Algerian Football Association (FAF) has shown a proactive stance and is taking radical measures.

Doping control in the national championship and cup has been a long-standing issue that has never resulted in a concrete project. This initiative, dating back several years, has been sidelined due to instability within the FAF and the succession of presidents. However, the current head of the association, Walid Sadi, is seriously considering relaunching it.

This process was initiated a few weeks ago following revealing signs of doping in some clubs. An incident during an African cup match played in Algeria, where at least two players from a renowned club avoided doping control, has heightened suspicions.

These two players have since disappeared, and the club deemed it prudent to sideline them. Informed of the incident, the FAF has decided to revive the doping test project. A request has been made to FIFA, which redirected the federation to the Algerian Olympic Committee, responsible for these controls.

The FAF is still awaiting a response in order to expedite the process for conducting tests in the Algerian championship and cup. This end-of-season period is conducive to anomalies, and the FAF aims to catch cheaters to restore order.

In addition to the abnormal performance of certain players, suspicious behaviors observed on the field have also raised questions. The FAF wants to anticipate these problems and deter cheaters, aware of the risk for them of being caught red-handed.

Following the introduction of VAR, the FAF is considering following up on an old project to create an analysis station at the National Technical Centre in Sidi Moussa. The goal is to prepare for the next season under the best conditions, with strengthened doping controls and modern technical means in line with international standards.
