Algerian Cup: FAF makes two crucial decisions

As the July 5th approaches, the date of the Algerian Cup final between Mouloudia d’Alger and CR Belouizdad, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has made two significant decisions.

International referee Mustapha Ghorbal is likely to officiate the 2024 Algerian Cup final, pitting Mouloudia d’Alger against CR Belouizdad. The head of the refereeing commission initially proposed Youcef Gamouh before departing for pilgrimage.

However, FAF President Walid Sadi expressed reservations about Gamouh due to his errors this season. Sadi thus preferred Ghorbal, who has excelled in several national and international matches, including the African Champions League final between Tunisia’s Esperance and Egypt’s Al Ahly.

Interestingly, Ghorbal had already refereed the last Algerian Cup final held on July 5th seven years ago, between CR Belouizdad and ES Setif. CR Belouizdad won that match, and the trophy was presented by Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who was then Prime Minister.

Simultaneously, FAF decided to advance its federal bureau meeting by a day, scheduling it for Wednesday instead of the originally planned Thursday, to make room for a special meeting regarding the Algerian Cup final. This meeting will address season evaluation, preparation for the next season, and adoption of legal measures for the upcoming season.
