The future of an Algerian team player seems overshadowed by a financial issue that is blocking the transfer of a talented young player. This regrettable situation highlights the difficulties faced by young Algerian footballers in flourishing and reaching their full potential.

Algeria’s star player, Mohammed Bachir Belloumi, currently playing for Portuguese club Farense, has been attracting attention in the summer transfer market since January. His impressive performances during the 2023-2024 season have garnered interest from numerous European clubs, particularly in Portugal, France, Italy, and even Belgium.

Aged 22 and the son of Algerian football legend Lakhdar Belloumi, Mohammed Bachir Belloumi has played 35 matches this season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists, according to Portuguese League fans. He is considered a rising star with promising potential for top clubs and international leagues.

Belloumi joined Farense’s reserve team in February 2022, and after a season, the club offered him a professional contract until summer 2027, revitalizing his career after disappointments from false promises of a transfer to the French league.

A newspaper article mentioned that Belloumi has been monitored by several European clubs, including Benfica, which has been interested in the right winger since January. However, Benfica has not yet made an official offer to Farense. Olympique de Marseille is also keenly interested, awaiting the appointment of a new technical director, with Sergio Conceição or Roberto de Zerbi among the candidates.

Other clubs such as Parma in Italy and Club Brugge in Belgium have also expressed interest. However, negotiations for his transfer could falter due to Farense’s high financial demands. The club is asking for €15 million to trigger Belloumi’s release clause, whereas his market value is estimated at only €4 million.

Some analysts believe clubs will be cautious given this demand, as Belloumi has only showcased his potential this season. They are hesitant to pay €15 million without guarantees of success. Belloumi’s agent will therefore need to negotiate with Farense to find a compromise, allowing the Portuguese club to secure a decent amount and Belloumi to move to a more prestigious club, thus following in his father’s footsteps in global football.
