The coach of the Algerian national football team, Vladimir Petkovic, is heading to Paris for a crucial mission. With the world’s eyes on him, he aims to strengthen the team and forge a winning strategy for upcoming challenges.

His visit to the French capital promises a series of meetings and negotiations, all geared towards leading Algeria to new heights on the international football stage.

Goalkeeper Alexandre Okidja (35 years old) could make his return to the Algerian national team at the next gathering in September.

After announcing his international retirement in June 2023, the FC Metz goalkeeper seems to have had a change of heart. According to a source within the Algerian national team’s technical staff, Okidja was contacted by an assistant to coach Vladimir Petkovic following disappointing performances by goalkeeper Anthony Mandria in recent matches.

Okidja has tentatively agreed to make a comeback and is expected to meet with Petkovic in Paris in the coming days to finalize his return. His decision is motivated by a desire to contribute to the national team and concerns over Mandria’s inconsistent performances.

Despite his age and his club’s relegation to Ligue 2 in France, Okidja delivered strong performances last season, finishing as the second-best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 for number of saves made. Okidja’s return would bring experience and competition to the Algerian national team’s goalkeeper position.

It remains to be seen whether he can reclaim the starting role he lost to Raïs Mbolhi and later to Anthony Mandria. This story will unfold over the next few days.
