The Mouloudia d’Alger club administration has strongly responded to Vladimir Petkovic’s remarks regarding the final squad selection for the Algerian national team’s upcoming June camp, as well as what they deemed as “offensive” comments towards their star player Youcef Belaili.
On their official social media accounts, they posted a graphic featuring a photo of striker Youcef Belaili along with impressive statistics from the Algerian league champion.
They reminded that the “Doyen” team, crowned champions before the season’s end, still leads the league with 61 points. They also highlighted the team’s offensive prowess, having scored 52 goals, making them the top-scoring team in the league, as well as boasting the best defense with only 17 goals conceded and 18 clean sheets, a league record. The Mouloudia d’Alger administration also emphasized Youcef Belaili’s performances, being the league’s top scorer with 12 goals and the top assist provider with the same number of assists.
In this context, international defender Djamel Benlamri warned the national team coach and his staff against excluding “Doyen” players from the upcoming camp for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Guinea and Uganda. Speaking on “El Heddaf” channel, Benlamri stated that not calling up players from his team would be a disaster, revealing anomalies in the Algerian national team management.

By including a photo and statistics of Belaili in their post, the administration responded to Petkovic’s “offensive” remarks made during his press conference last Thursday. Explaining Belaili’s absence from the upcoming call-up, Petković stated that the player lacks discipline and has been outperformed by fierce competition in his position, by players currently superior technically. Petkovic’s remarks sparked controversy in the media and on social networks, angering Mouloudia d’Alger supporters and fans of the “Pablo” star.
