After a mixed first season in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli, Riyad Mahrez could soon reunite with a former Manchester City teammate: Portuguese right-back João Cancelo.
Still under contract with Manchester City, João Cancelo is being pursued by clubs in Saudi Arabia and Europe. The English club is reportedly willing to sell him for around 25 to 30 million euros.
Saudi clubs like Al Ahli and Al Ettifaq are interested, but Juventus, Inter Milan, and Barcelona are also in the mix. Cancelo has a personal agreement with Barcelona, but the club is facing financial challenges.
Mahrez and Cancelo played together at Manchester City for four years, from 2019 to 2023, operating side by side on the right flank for the Citizens. After Mahrez departed for Al Ahli, Cancelo also moved on, joining Barcelona on loan last season in Spain. He aims to make the move permanent this summer, despite interest from Saudi clubs.
Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez is contracted to Al Ahli until June 2027, and all indications suggest he will continue his adventure there, at least for the upcoming season.
